TOO MUCH SOCIALIZING ONLINE Abstract Internet facility nowadays has made social networking site is the most frequent visit either, indeed the use of the internet to socialize provides many benefits to the community. However, too much socializing online will lead to various cons, isolation that occurs will cause various disasters to users addicted to the use of the internet that is too long, various problems encountered will be faced by users when they are too much socializing online. Among these are, they will be lost interpersonal skill which it is something very important in the life of society. Mental illness will also be faced by users who employ the internet too much. It caused them to be spending too much time in front of the laptop or any gadgets. In addition, the technology also imposes social isolation. This is because the user will not be concerned with relationships in the real world. They will lose their manners, conversation or even manners mixing in the real world. Even so, there is too much socializing on line is also good, like trading online dah also use it toward education. All parties need to ensure that this can be eradicated because it will bring a lot of adverse effects than good. Introduction Nowadays, internet and computers are very important in life. Various methods are used to communicate with individuals. In the past, everyone connected with each other by simply sending a letter through the post. This process takes a long time to send a message to our friends. After the phone was introduced, many people use the phone to communicate with each other. With this, web developers about how to solve problems that occur if you want to connect with people who far away. Internet usage is diverse and among them is to search for information, adding knowledge, entertainment, and to chat. The use of increasingly sophisticated technologies to help people to get information at a rate so fast. John Naisbitt (1990), predicts one of ten human tendencies in the early twenty-first century is information. Approximately 60,000 students aged between 12 and 18 years in this country tracked spend at least four hours a day surfing the internet, especially social networking site Facebook (FB), Twitter, Instagram and many more. Addicted to the internet, especially FB is causing the students often cheat, steal, antisocial and turned into a bad temper if their wishes are not met. If the addictive social networking site is not addressed, it will cause various negative impacts include symptoms of truancy and crime and antisocial. Too much socializing online will lead to more negative than positive things. Other than disrupt the interaction among human beings, too much socializing online also leads to various diseases and also leads to social isolation imposes. Technology is destroying the Quality of Human Interaction Technology is the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science and pure science (Dictionary.com, n.d). It cannot be denied that in this century, we live really depends on the technology like mobile, computers, medication machines, security and etc. The technology development also keep increasing day by day and it makes some people feeling eager to wait for the new technology such as a new gadget being released. Technology itself gives us many benefits and also came along with negative effects. Little by little Internet and mobile technology seems to be deftly destroying the meaningfulness of interactions among people, disconnecting us from the world around us and leading to an imminent sense of isolation in today`s society (Melissa, n.d). Today, instead of meeting friends face to face we rather call, text or instant message them. It may seem simpler but we ultimately end up seeing our friends a lot less society (Melissa, n.d). The technology, especially mobile technology nowadays really gives a big impact to our live. In Malaysia itself, all the citizens in this country have their own smartphone even the kids under twelve years old. Supposedly, the children at that age should spend more time with their parents and friends. We called this situation as a gadget haze where people really attached to their gadgets. If this situation keeps happening in our society, we should not be surprised if those children having problem with their social interactions with others. There is an article that talk about how the mobile technology kills the face to face interactions. The writer said he was at the University of Missouri-Columbia for a reunion and he noticed that just about every student had a cell phone out to read text messages or check voicemails as they walked around- whether they had friends nearby or not (Mark, 2007). That was what happened in 2007, and we can see that the gadget haze today become more serious when the people busy texting, Facebooking, twittering, and these make them ignore the people around them and at the same time it slowly destroying the quality of the human interaction. In 2010, there is another article talk about how the technology destroys the interpersonal communication. The writer questioned that people today rely on Facebook, Tumblr, Foursquare and etc., And most individuals are connected to the technology and the internet at all times one way another (Sean, 2010). Furthermore, there also has a page that listed 10 ways smartphones are destroying our lives and I really interested with one of the ways that is social interactions? Huh? What are they? It questioned us how often these days we meet groups of people having coffee with everyone`s faces buried in their phones, supposedly they had nothing to chat about or maybe we are slowly forgetting how to fill life`s awkward silences with polite conversation (news.com.au, 2012). The development of the technology that speeding up nowadays really make us worried because of the behaviour of the people that really excited regarding it. Technology is good, but our people make it worse. This is because we do not know how to use it well. Forget all the gadgets or any technology we have when we are in a group of people, show some respect there and then we can balance the human interactions within people and technology. Technology will be precious when we not how to appreciate it. Children will faced mental illness, disease due to too many online socializing Apart from the lack of interpersonal communication skills, The children are the ones who are vulnerable to the problem of social ills. Mental illness will also be faced by a child who is too much of their time on social networking sites. This is due, they would rather receive something without examining the facts is whether it is correct or not. Critical thinking they would be reduced and they will struggle to make any decisions relating to the idea. They are no longer interested in analysing an accepted fact flatly through search engines. Consequently, they no longer teach the brain to think in depth which can affect brain function when the condition persists. If that were done from the early stages of teenage life, how it will be when they grow up. It not only affects their daily lives, but how they can be competent and competitive. What is more worrying is primarily to parents is their childs truancy willing simply to go to a cyber cafe in their home if there is no computer. If not enough pocket money, they are willing to steal, as long as it can visit cyber cafes. Personal computers, especially those with access to the internet, for example, is one of the tools for communication technology is often touted as very useful for a variety of purposes such as to receive, transmit and record the information. But in the meantime, we also feel uneasy because the media have also become a channel obscene material and also have been misused for the purposes immoral and gambling. Those who spend more than four hours a day to see the screen more vulnerable to mental illness. Children who spend more time on the computer, watching TV and playing video games, tend to experience higher levels of emotional stress, anxiety and depression. But most do not take advantage of such facilities with the best that exists between those who abuse that sparked controversy as threats to particular individuals. Conclusion Malaysia as a country that is peaceful and prosperous society must be completed with the ethical standards of excellence for surfing the cyber world full of comfort. Islam requires all Muslims to respect each other, we maintain dignity and society around us. The issue of students exposed to pornographic material can be contained if religious values applied in the students. Certain parties have to take action to control closely so that students do not tend to social problems. No other element that can poison the integrity of the community that is spread through the internet to be accessed by all human beings. ICT influence the level of modernity and contemporary life is inevitable and has great influence in the lives of young people o r students in particular. It has become part of modern life now that will continue to improve the use and impact from time to time. The use and the influence in the lives of Malaysians now inseparable with ICT in many aspects of life. To avoid or reduce the negative effects and destroy the positive values of religion and culture of our society as well as highlighting the positive values of society, all parties and of various levels must strengthen the role of religious, moral and ethical values of our society, especially for the younger generation to avoid of the negative effects that will get worse. Completely eliminated the negative effects harder, but what might be done is to increase the positive effects and minimize negative effects. Government policies related to education and culture must also put the issue of abuse and the negative impact of the Internet as an important tool for the modernization and development of the nation state in Malaysia. In a nut shell, we can conclude here that too much socializing online will bring more negative symptoms than positive. Attitudes towards Test Tube Babies [pic] Name of Student: Yuhan Huang (Sheley) AE teacher: Michelle Crockford AE Class: February 4 Abstract The objective of this report is to present the attitudes and ideas shared by International Education Services Limited (IES) students and students from the university of Queensland (UQ) in relation to their knowledge and personal opinions concerning Invitro fertilization The survey used data collected from male and female students between the ages of 15 and 30 living in the State of Queensland.The participants were given 20 questions to answer in privacy and without any degree of pressure. The questions related to their personal details and to the IVF program in particular. The aim of the investigation was to gather an overall point of view as to whether IVF was indeed seen as an accepted type of program among this age group. In conclusion it is reasonable to think that another survey with an older more experienced age group would more likely give a variation in results. Because this selected age group were students, their knowledge and experience directly with IVF was limited.However, it is important to recoginse the opinions of youth as they are the future generation of adults. Introduction In recent years, babies conceived through in-vitro fertilization (IVF) have been a topic of moral discussion around the world. This form of reproduction is not considered a natural and acceptable way of giving birth in some people’s eyes. Many infertile couples in particular, rely on this new technology since it allows them the choice of having their baby using this method. In-vitro fertilization is defined by, â€Å"a process by which egg cells are fertilised by sperm outside the womb (Papanikolaou et al. 006)†. The definition of a test tube baby is one which is the result of a female ovary or egg having been fertilised with a male sperm inside a test tube, the resulting impregnated egg is implanted in the uterus of a fem ale, growing into a foetus and developing baby by the time of birth. (Muffin, 2007). According to Walsh (2008), three million test tube babies have been born throughout the world in this way so far, and this number continues to increase at a rate of eleven thousand each year.In 1978, the world’s first successful â€Å"test-tube† baby, Louise Brown, was born in Great Britain. The baby girl weighed five-pound 12- ounces and was delivered early via Caesarean section. The process had been a success; this process proved Dr. Steptoe and Dr. Edwards had accomplished the first of many test tube babies (Rosenberg, 1970). In Australia, the first test tube baby, Candice Elizabeth Reed, was born in 1980 (Screen Australia, 1982). Infertility afflicts thousand’s of married couples feeling frustration at being childless.In India, there is an infertility clinic which provides moral, emotional and the most advanced technical support for couples wishing to solve their fertility i ssues. However, the religion of Islam is totally against IVF and has been banned by the by Islamic Fiqh Council (1986). In addition, they thought that in-vitro fertilization was unlawful because it could result in confusion with regard to parentage (Islamic Perspective, 2007). Prior to the birth of the first test tube babies such as Louise Brown, people worldwide were hesitant to use this method thinking that there could be risks involved.However, in time the health and well being of those babies born through IVF programs have proven to the world that this method is indeed safe. Hence the fears have almost disappeared. However, many people still have many misconceptions about a test tube baby and some countries do not allow the manufacturing of test tube babies. If a baby can be created in a test tube, then infertile couples stand a better chance of having a family then by other means. The aim of this report is to examine the attitudes of people towards the adoption of in vitro-fert ilization.This paper will first discus the methodology and select the survey question from this research, then a summary of the questionnaire results will be introduced,   followed by a discussion, conclusion and recommendations. Method In this report, quantitative methodology was chosen for this research. Because of the complexities associated with unstructured interview technique and time constraints. A questionnaire was designed to examine the different opinions of International Education Services Limited (IES) and University of Queensland (UQ) students attitude towards the adoption of in vitro-fertilization (refer Appendix A).The main types of questions asked included; those about personal details and personal experiences together with questions on people’s points of view about in–vitro fertilization. There were 30 students who were all volunteers. 10 out of participants were male and 20 of them were female. The students were chosen randomly from state library an d UQ library all full time students between the ages of 15 to 30. Religion, political affiliation and socio-economic status were considered unimportant. Confidentiality was ensured by not recording names.Questionnaires were completed by students and the data was then collated and analysed. The questionnaire was limited by the fact that many of the participants were too young to have had any real personal experience in dealing with IVF, however some were able to relate to friends or family who had used the IVF program successfully. Some of the participants only vaguely knew any of factual or historical knowledge about IVF. The interest that the questionnaire generated among participants and their honest and forthright answers proved to be a bonus as far as the questionnaire was concerned.Interpretation of Results Questions 1 and 2 were basic and asked about personal knowledge of in vitro-fertilization (IVF) and test-tube babies. The participants generally have heard about IVF. There are about 83. 3% students know about this topic as can be seen in the results, the ridiculous thing is that there are five students who have never heard of IVF, but one of them knew the process involved in making a test-tube baby. Questions 3 to 13 were probing and in-depth in order to obtain the participant’s sincere and knowledgeable reaction to each question.It was rewarding to see that so many agreed with the IVF program and its aims and benefits. In addition, a high percentage of participants were neutral about many of these questions. This could have meant that they really didn’t know a great deal about IVF or weren’t sure of the answer. Questions 14 through to 19 extended the questioning into the sphere of Government funding. Here 70% of males and 80% of females believed that the Government should provide funding for the IVF program. 6 months to 1 year in Question 18 seems a short time time for most to choose, however this would reflect the experience of the participants.The respondents were generally concerned about this topical issue and its bearing on modern society. They all saw the positive outcome where couples could become happy and have a baby of their own. They concerned themselves with the possibility of defective babies being born. Their eagerness to be involved in the questionnaire showed the openness which they had in being part of the solution to any problem involving IVF. Because their was no influence give by other parties to participants in answering the 20 questions, it can be said that this was a survey with genuine results.Notwithstanding that there were factors which did not fit in exactly with the aim of the survey, such as the young age of some participants along with people having limited knowledge there was sufficient suitable data collected to give a commendable result. The language used in the questionnaire was understood by all participants. Key words such as: in-vitro fertilization, partially, afflicts, infertile, federal funding, prohibitive, DNA did not require any explanation, however some Asian students did request help in sentence meanings.Most people showed a basic understanding on what IVF was meant to do; that is to enable pregnancy to take place, surprisingly in the same question, number 16 very few saw any real concern for safety, acknowledging the medical competency that exist with this program. Recommendation As the findings have indicated, most people were concerned with couples having the need to have a baby if they so desired. It would therefore be in the interest of the â€Å"powers to be,† that Government and medical bodies proceed vigorously with greater implementation and assistance for the IVF program.Question 17 showed that most participants saw two important concerns; that of costing, and concern for babies having defects. Both government and medical procedures can overcome these potential barriers with more funding and improved research respectively. I t is interesting to note that in question 13, 30% of females strongly disagreed with the concept of the IVF program producing babies as if they were some kind of commodity or product. No males registered any comment.It appears from this statistic that there is no need to educate people further on this ethical side of any argument brought forward. It can be deduced that the data obtained will in some way enlighten readers of this survey, thus strengthening the argument for a continued IVF program existing in the forefront of society for years to come. . The implications of these results are that more research needs to be carried out to provide a more comprehensive understanding of how other age groups see the IVF program.There could also be surveys done involving those of mixed ethnic backgrounds as well as those of different religions and those with ethical and moral demands. Such surveys would need to address a different kind of questioning but it would still be a recommended that can be made here. Researches in the field of Social Science would definitely find this convincing survey beneficial in exploring the human condition surrounding the human condition, be it only for the point of view of 30 young people.

Tinnitus Management Therapy

Meeting the expectations of chronic tinnitus patients: Comparison of a structured group therapy program for tinnitus management with a problem solving group. Journal of Psychosomatic Research. 44 (6). 681-685 A therapy called tinnitus management therapy or TMT was developed using ideas of cognitive-behavioral therapy for two different groups. One-hundred fourty-four patients suffering form tinnitus aged 19-74 years were treated with this TMT compared with a normal kind of problem solving group therapy. The patients self-rated themselves on how helpful each treatment was in dealing with life problems as well as how seriously they thought that were being treated and taken seriously. These self-ratings helped professionals find that the TMT therapy worked better for these patients in coping with all the aspects of tinnitus. Anderson, Gerhard. 1997. Prior treatments in a group of tinnitus sufferers seeking treatment. Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics. 66 (2). 107-110. Four groups were obtained from sixty-nine tinnitus sufferers aged 22-76 years to try and describe the distress they go through based on if they have had treatment or not. The four groups were: not treatment (24 people), acupuncture (19 people), relaxation (13 people), other treatments. (13 people). These people were asked to rate helplessness, capacity for rest, acceptability of change, emotional effects, hearing and ability to ignore using the Tinnitus Effect Questionaire. The only major difference that was found was that the untreated group had more acceptability for change. Hegel, Mark T; Martin, John B. 1998. Behavioral treatment of pulsative tinnitus and headache following traumatic head injuries: Objective polygraphic assessment of change. Behavior Modification. 22 (4). Pg. 563-573 This study was done on a 37 year old male that had a traumatic head injury. He was evaluated and put through behavioral treatment that included a polygraphic assessment of vasomotor function among other things. Lifestyle modifications and behavioral modifications helped in both functioning and figuring out the underlying physiology that relates to tinnitus. Anderson, Gerhard; Larsen, Hans-Christian. 1997. Cognitive-behavioral treatment of tinnitus in otosclerosis : A case report. Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy. 25. 79-82 A male patient aged 52 years with an ear disease (otosclerosis) had symptoms that included tinnitus which caused him obvious physiological distress. The doctors found that the tinnitus that he had was stress-induced and had experienced attacks which seemed horribly unbearable. He was given ten sessions of a cognitive-behavioral therapy program and was tested before and after to find results. These results showed that the attacks became less frequent, easier to handle, and decreased annoyance, which in turn helped him cope better. Erlandsson, Soly I. 1998. Psychological counseling in a medical setting-some clinical examples given by patients with tinnitus and Meneire's disease. International Journal for the Advancement of Counseling. 20 (4). 265-276. Counseling patients with Meniere's disease showed that a defensive response to tinnitus or Meniere's disease caused a state of dysfunction and that their psychological adaption was hindered. Some of the patients found it difficult to even talk about the first attack that they experienced of the tinnitus and Meniere's disease. The counselors concluded that the reason these people are trying to find help is because they are afraid of suffering a mental breakdown. They don't think it has much to do with the physical disease, so specialists need to come at it from a psychological perspective.
